Ancient Omani marble formation

The Tethys Legacy

90 Million Years
of Authorship.

The stone beneath your feet began as a seabed. What you call marble, the earth calls memory.

The Origin Story

The Semail Ophiolite

Few geological events in earth's history match the drama of what happened beneath modern-day Oman. Around 95 million years ago, an ancient oceanic crust was thrust violently onto the Arabian plate. This was not a gentle event; it was a catastrophic collision of worlds.

The sedimentary limestone beds caught inside this collision were subjected to enormous heat, directional pressure, and tectonic shear. Instead of shattering, they transformed. Calcium carbonate crystals recrystallised into interlocking mosaic patterns, and flowing trace minerals smeared along fault planes into the sweeping veins we see today.

~180M Years Ago

The Tethys Sea

Microscopic marine organisms settle on the ocean floor. Layer by layer, calcium carbonate accumulates — the unborn marble.

~95M Years Ago

The Great Collision

The Semail Ophiolite is thrust southward over the Arabian plate with catastrophic force. The limestone beds are buried, heated, and compressed.

~90M Years Ago

Metamorphosis

Under extreme directional pressure, limestone transforms into marble. Minerals flow like rivers of stone, forming the dramatic veining we value today.

~30-20M Years Ago

Exposure

Erosion gradually strips the overlying rock, revealing the Hajar Mountains — the world's largest and best-preserved ophiolite, and Diamond Stone's quarry.
